Last Day Reflections

What did you learn about photography that you did not know before?
1) I learned a lot about photography this semester. I didn't know that there was this much to know about it. Before I just thought you pointed a camera at something to get an image, but it wasn't. It was all about capturing a moment in time, and to put it in an image that you remember it best by. I learned the basics and the advances of photoshop and how to work a camera. Although it is becoming outdated, I no know how to develop film and make turn it into a larger photograph.

What did you learn about yourself this semester?
2) I learned how to find something "more" in an everyday object, the alphabet project really taught me that. I also learned that if I put enough effort into something, I can make it great. This was a very fun class and the assignment were just to find a certain moment in time, and just capture it... So easy, but so hard to find the right moment to capture.

What do wish we had done that we did not.
3) I wish this was a full year class so that we could have more time to do more projects, and to learn more about photography.

What was your struggle?
4) My struggle was trying to find an actual good thing to photograph. If I had this class during warmer weather I would've gone out more and take better photos. I just don't like to be cold, but I had to suck it up to get the assignment done. Another struggle was I had an older digital camera that didn't have any adjustable settings and I just had to work fast to get the desired photo I wanted.

What did you conquer?
5) I conquered the use of photoshop. How to alter color, brightness, and textures of photographs. It was  nice to experiment with, to see what I could do to make the photograph more than it actually was.

Blur Project

Blur photos.

The blur project was difficult in result of my camera not having any ISO settings and always being auto. I had to move it pretty fast, and make it not to capture a still photo. I had to place my hand in front of the camera to make the alter the focus, then move it rapidly in one direction so the photos aren't really that great. I attempted to do panning, but it was failing badly. If I had a better camera, I would have definitely have taken better pictures.
 Attempt in panning my friend.
Using a my keyboard to create blur.
 Attempt in panning a car.
Outside the school... Makes it kind of look like oil pastel
A paper flying off the edge of the table... Didn't turn out well and this was the best one.
You can almost see the paper airplane...
Focusing my camera on the chairs then made some rapid movements
 Me kicking a soccer ball.
 Forgot what this is...
 Running in the hallway

 Kicking my backpack
A red towel going over my backback rapidly

Was a cool picture i took a while back, the splash of water was blurred a little bit
 Black and white of... Something...
*Trying to fix my camera by hitting the lens and made a nice blurred picture of this chair.
 Black and white of chairs
 Black and white of backpack.
Black and white of kicking a soccer ball
 Black and white of trees
 Trying to pan my friend...
Moving a piece of paper of a table rapidly (B&W)
Blurred chair (B&W)

Light project

I observed that lighting is a key role to photography. I "had" a lot of pictures from Aspen, but they were lost. It was easy in Aspen because the powdery snow made silhouettes a lot easier, and direct light was difficult because it the snow kept reflecting sunlight everywhere and I had to find darker places.

Portraits

This is my one of my good friends, Jeremy. Him and I were hanging out and I asked him if I could photograph him for this project. He agreed and he made all these weird faces and that matches his personality. We did this on some weekend because we were both bored and it was rainy and no fun to go outside.

Web assignment 11/13/12

Self portraits that am thinking about is sporting, such as basketball or football poses. like me hanging on a basketball rim, or palming a basketball, or throwing a football stance. Another idea I have is me just being lazy. Maybe me just taking pictures of me laying on the couch, on my bed, or on the floor. Another idea is a silhouette of me standing infront of a light source, such as the sun or something that is bright enough to silhouette me. Another idea is putting my camera on the floor and taking a picture of me standing over the camera so the viewer can just see an extension of my leg or legs up to my face. I would also alter these photos a little bit using photoshop by making them black and white or cross processing them.

1) One of Andy Gilmores photos, that is made of lines that come together to make a nice optical photograph. I like it because you can see many different things in this picture. If you choose to, you can see spotlights on a stage, or maybe a kind of airplane, or maybe just and interesting collection of lines.
 2) This is one of Daniel Seung Lee's photographs of binoculars over Niagara falls. I like this photograph because the binoculars look like people just standing around looking at something. It is curious to know what they are looking at.

3) This is an abstract photo by Diana Wong of New York city of the Empire state building. The reason I like this photo is because the lights seem to be scratched onto the photo, and is not a completely natural photo.

Web assignment #5

Beauty

Beauty in photography is what people think is attractive and relatable to their minds eye (and their real eyes) The characteristics of photographic beauty is lighting, color, shading, angle, what is actually happening. Something that is considered "ugly" is not really ugly, every person has their own opinion about everything, What is beautiful to some may be ugly to others. For an example, my friend doesn't think that the Mona Lisa is good at all, he thinks it is just another portrait, but some people believe that it is a magical and mind blowing.
